When a voice actor goes for a more distinct voice.

That one of the more awesome things about Steve Blum is that you never know from hearing that he is voicing someone. He could very well be voicing my inner thoughts right now, lol.

I personally think it's clear that Blum plays Green Goblin. He sounds kind of like Orochimaru on crack.

As I said earlier, Winnie the Pooh. And while we're at it, Tigger too. Those voices sound almost nothing like Jim, if you ask me.

Steve Blum as Green Goblin didn't shock me as much as him being Grunt in Mass Effect 2. I was actually stunned when I read this.

Am I the only person here who can, honest to god, always tell when it's Tara Strong? I've never been shocked/surprised by her roles.

I just assume everyone I don't know is Frank Welker at this point, "Who's that voice? I'm just going to assume it's Welker."

Eh I'm with PC!: It's pretty obvious that's Blum, just being allowed to be crazier and higher pitched. You want to hear places that DON'T have Blum's distnict voices: Try Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law (he does a very spot on Yakky Doodle) and Digimon Tamers (He does Guilmon in that show. Kind of funny since another char in that show has Blum's more regular average voice that you hear in about every other show he's in).

It took me years to figure out that Tom Kenny was the narrator from The Powerpuff Girls. Up until that point, his high-pitched nasally voice made him easy to recogznize. I think I realized that it was him in the Spongbob episode "The Hall Monitor", when he does that deep, heroic voice.

well your question is a little on the impossible side, or more appropriately poorly worded if it was 'without previous internet info' because without the internet, and without a truly recognizable voice it would be rather hard to pick out any voice. even when i do pick out distinct voices usually there is a verbrado or some small uniqueness that is rather inexcapable.

anyways it is a good question. i did not know he did pete, and i definitely did not know (until i looked it up) that he did tantor in tarzan, and hak foo in jackie chan adventures. the bulk of his work has been as winnie the pooh and tigger. toss in his great ability to do a classy redneck character and alot of his work is somewhat stock.

he is talented and can deliver a very funny line, and does have some range.

While Paulsen is quite diverse in voices, I didn't realize he was the voice of Yakko until maybe last year. I often associate him with wiseguy-type voices (Raphael, Didgeri Dingo, Steelbeak, etc).

Glad I came upon this topic. As I have some myself:

First off it Transformers G1. In all honesty, I didn't know that Peter Cullen voiced both Optimus prime and Ironhide until I checked it out on Wikipedia. Ditto with Michael McConnohie and his portrayal of Track and Cosmos.

I was also surprised when I discover that Charlie Adler did Starscream in the live action movie. I normally associate him with higher pitched (yet raspy) characters.

I was even more surprised when I discovered that Rattrap, Dinobot and Waspinator from Beast Wars had the same voice as well. And most of us know who he is too (For those who don't, it Scott McNeil).

Some actors like Frank Welker, Mel Blanc, Billy West and them are self explanitory Though I must admit, None of West's characters on Futurama even sounded the same. I also must say that he does a pretty good Phil Hartman impersonation.

And at times, I honestly think that Kari Whalgren is impersonating Tara Strong and Grey DeLisle at times.

Going with the anime route, I've seen 4 animes with voice actor Jerry Jewell:

Dragonball: Nam
Case Closed: Jimmy Kudo and Phantom Thief
Fruits Basket: Kyo Souma
Shuffle: Rin Tsuchimi

Of those 4 animes, I'd say that Nam is the most distinct voice as far as I've seen. Sounds nothing like the other three shows whatsoever.

Then there's David Kaye. I'd have to say that from my viewings of shows with him that I found his Optimis Prime voice on Transformers Animated to be different from his other characters (Professor X from X-Men Evolution, Megatron from Beast War and Soun Tendo & The Gambling King from Ranma 1/2).

Pete's a bit iffy as to me his voice sounds similar to Negaduck. Tantor and Winnine The Pooh I almost find distinct from his other voice work, but I definitely didn't recognize him as Hak Foo.

It was cool learning that Scott did all those voices, which I probably wouldn't have done if I wasn't thinking one time about the similarities in Silverbolt's voice and Jimmy Lee's from Double Dragon and decided to look it up.

Watching the Nostalgia Critic's review on the early TMNT episodes got me thinking about this topic again.

Cam Clarke tends to be recognizable in most of the roles he plays, but I'd say that I couldn't recognize his voice as Rocksteady on the aforementioned cartoon (as opposed to say his voice of Leonardo). Even in his human form, his voice didn't sound like Cam Clarke.
