when a runner tries to steal home from 3rd, is the batter encouraged to swing on

From my experiences, the batter tends not to swing.

I wouldn't want to be stealing home, and have the batter swinging.

Would be distracting.

well it woulent be very smart it a rare thing to do i wouldent screw it up

if the batter was to do anything i'd say bunt, since the runner would be close to home, swinging wouldn't be safe(no pun intended). get a good jump, know the count and what pitch should be coming next (curve, change up,knuckle) and you can up your chance at making it

Most of the times, a steal of home is done by the runner when the pitcher isn't paying too much attention, most of the times, there isn't a pitch either, just a throw home. But on the chance he steals with the pitch, the batter usually doesn't swing. A lot of the times you may see the batter bunt though, so the runner can get home with ease, thus called the suicide squeeze.

No because if the batter were to swing (righty batter) he would probably interfere with the runner who is stealing and the catcher so they would be incouraged to move out unless it is a suicide squeez in which the batter bunts and the runner steals home which works better with a lefty because there is no intereference with the runner.

i dont think the batter would be told to swing
because the runner on 3rd would run on his own
he would not have been told to run

but i think the batter should swing or bunt to get the runner home
