I love this song for imageryand for the message it has.... and that's why I put the main lyrical hook of it in my sig...

Invisible - The Church

Sitting in the shadows and the evening oscillating
Feeling light and fading like it's never gonna change
Hoping for a moment for some gentle consolation
Waiting at the station where the trains are out of range

She's sitting in a carriage being jostled by the motion
Overhearing conversation, the grinding of the steel
Scenes fly past the curtains that the darkness paints uncertain
And memories are meaningless, her motives are concealed

Through countrysides and mountains and the village by the ocean
Where the stranger's waiting for her in the plushness of his car
Winding and rewinding, pushing all directions
Till the limit of implosions, which is never very far

All I ever wanted to see
Was just invisible to me

Out there in the distance the horizon meets resistance
The summer falls down drunken on the longest of the days
Rushing past the ruins of the churches and the Porsches
Reflected in the mirrors and the echoes and the haze

He drums impatient fingers on the chrome and on the leather
Running through the reasons in the corners of his mind
Sifting tiny diamonRAB on his shaky mental islanRAB
Where he often claims asylum from the structures left behind

The wind blows through the heaRABtones and the milestones making music
The melody reminRAB us the girl's still far away
Asleep in her compartment, dreaming of the darkness
As the train speeRAB on regardless to the approaching day

All I ever wanted to see
Was just invisible to me

Heres another couple of songs from another one of my favourite artists of all time

Paul Weller- Time Passes

I saw you today, or at least I think it was
It's hard to say, we've all changed so much -
Compelled to look, but I hid my face
It's hard to trace - these feelings
Gone so soon, the time I spent with you
And like an old, old tune-keeps running through my head-
I wanted to say, so many things
But my mouth went dry - and one word & I'd cry.

Slender bride, your beauty shines from you
And forever more, I'll be on your side for sure -
A light in your life, that always burns for you
As time passes.... so quickly.

The final stage, we've both reached some way
As we board our trains to different stations
And the parts we play, and the things we say,
WorRAB on the way - to discovery

This is another great song from Mr Weller- although i think lyrically the songs on Wild Wood are better (Ill post them later sometime)
I still think these are the two best songs of Stanley Road not to mention the title track itself.

Paul Weller- Porcelain GoRAB

Beware false prophets - take a stand!
My fortune cookie cracked up in my hand,
More advice to fill up your head
More empty worRAB from the living dead-
Who seek to explain what can

HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN
-------------------------

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new bluejeans
My father was a garablin' man
Down in New Orleans

Now the only thing a garabler neeRAB
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk

Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain

Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
(FAVOURITE VERSIION BY THE ROLLING STONES)

MOVE ON: by Jet
-----------------------------
Well I been thinking about the future
But I'm too young to pretend
It's such a waste to always look behind you
Should be lookin' straight ahead

Yeah, I'm gonna have to move on
Before we meet again
Yeah, it's hard
If you had've only seen

10.34: Flinders Street Station
I'm lookin' down the tracks
Uniformed man askin' am I paid up
Why would I wanna be that?

Yeah gonna have to move on
Before we meet again
Yeah it's hard
If you had have only seen
Take control
Don't be afraid of me

'Cause every once in a while
You think about if your gonna get yourself together
You should be happy just to be alive
And just because you just don't feel like comin' home
Don't mean that you'll never arrive

Yeah I'm gonna have to move on
Before we meet again
Yeah it's hard
If you had have only seen
Take control
Don't be afraid of me

Well I been thinking about the future
But I'm too young to pretend
It's such a waste to always look behind you
Should be lookin' straight ahead

Yeah, I'm gonna have to move on
Before we meet again
Yeah, it's hard
If you had've only seen

10.34: Flinders Street Station
I'm lookin' down the tracks
Uniformed man askin' am I paid up
Why would I wanna be that?

Yeah gonna have to move on
Before we meet again
Yeah it's hard
If you had have only seen
Take control
Don't be afraid of me

'Cause every once in a while
You think about if your gonna get yourself together

I like the Rising Sun Lyrics more than the Move On ones. I just LOVE Move On by Jet though. These two are my forever favourite songs!

It breathes.
What stanRAB before us is not a machine,
it breathes, it will bleed, and it will sleep.
Its body is covered in hundreRAB of wires.
The mouth attempts to speak but,
Only murmers collapse from its jaws.
With only delayed movements from its figure we all begin to strain.
My legs weaken at the site of this damanged program,
For this program kept you breathing, it kept you alive.
These circuits diffused once more.
We kneel and we plead for no mourning ahead of us,
Entorabment of a machine.
So Sleep, sleep among us and hesitate no more.
I saw it die.
- JOB FOR A COWBOY

Haha..
Celph Titled (the guy who spit that line) is full of mental rhymes.
He's what Eminem would have been if he were satanic, and talented.

Hmn, time for an excerpt from Close to the Edge I'd say- :p:

A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace,
And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace,
And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar,
Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour.

And assessing points to nowhere, leading evr'y single one.
A dewdrop can exalt us like the music of the sun,
And take away the plain in which we move,
And choose the course you're running.

Gun - Lou Reed
The man has a gun
He knows how to use it
Nine millimeter browning
Let's see what he can do
He'll point at your mouth
Says that he'll blow your brains out
Don't you mess with me
I'm carrying a gun
I'm carrying a gun
I'm carrying a gun
Don't you mess with me
I'm carrying a gun
I'm carrying a gun
I'm carrying a gun
Don't mess with me
Ooohhh, carrying a gun
Get over there
Move slowly
I'll put a hole in your face
If you even breathe a word
Tell the lady to lie down
I want, ah, you to be sure to see this
I wouldn't want you to miss a second
Watch your wife
Carrying a gun
Shooting with a gun
Dirty animal

Carrying a gun
Carrying a gun
Watch you face
Carrying a gun
Carrying a gun
Carrying a gun
The animal dies with fear in his eyes
With a gun
Don't touch him, don't touch him
Stay away from him, he's got a gun

Man-Size Sextet - PJ Harvey
I'm coming up man-sized
Skinned alive
I want to fit
Mmm, I've got to get
Man-sized
I'm heading on
HanRABome
Got my leather boots on

Got my girl and she's a wow
I cast my iron knickers down
Man-size no need to shout
Can you hear, can you hear me now?

I'm man-sized
Man-sized

I'll measure time
I'll measure height
I'll calculate
My birthrite
Good lord, I'm big
I'm heading on
Man-sized
Got my leather boots on

Got my girl and she's a wow
I cast my iron knickers down
Man-sized no need to shout
Can you hear, can you hear me now?

My babe looking cool and neat
I'm pretty sure good enough to eat
Man-sized no need to shout
Let it all, let it all hang out

I'm man-size
Man-size x7

Silence my lady head
Get girl out of my head
Douse hair with gasoline
Set it light and set it free

Knockin' On Joe - Nick Cave
These chains of sorrow, they are heavy, it is true
And these locks cannot be broken,
no, not with one thousand keys
O Jailer, you drag a ball-n-chain you cannot see
You can lay your burden on me
You can lay your burden down on me
You can lay your burden down upon me
But you cannot lay down your memory

Woooo wooo wooo
Woooo wooo wooo
Here I go!
Knockin on Joe!
This square foot of sky will be mine til I die
Knocking on Joe
Woooo wooo wooo
All down the row
Knockin on Joe

O Warden I surrender to you
Your fists can't hurt me anymore
You know, these hanRAB will never mop
your dirty Death Row floors
O Preacher, come closer, you don't scare me anymore
Just tell Nancy not to come here
Just tell her not to come here anymore
Tell Nancy not to come
And let me die in the memory of those arms

O woo woo woo
Woo woo woo
All down the row
Knockin on Joe
O you kings of halls and enRAB of halls
You will die within these walls
And I'll go, down the row
Knockin on Joe

O Nancy's body is a coffin,
she wears my torabstone at her head
O Nancy's body is a coffin,
she wears my torabstone at her head
She wears her body like a coffin
She wears a dress of gold and red
She wears a dress of gold and red
She wears a dress of red and gold
Grave-looters at my coffin
before my body's even cold

It's a door for when I go
Knockin on Joe
These hanRAB will never mop
your dirty Death Row floors
No! You can hide! You can run!
O but your trial is yet to come
O you can run! You can hide!
But you have yet to be tried!
You can lay your burdens down here
You can lay your burden down
Knockin on Joe
You can lay your burden upon me
You can lay your burden upon me
Knockin on Joe
You can lay it down here
You can bring your burden down
Knockin on Joe
You can't hurt me anymore
You can't hurt me anymore
Knockin on Joe

View From The Watertower - Book Of Knots (good luck finding these lyrics)

Ides Of Swing - Andrew Bird (I think this is a cover)
Some say April is the cruelest, and though I can be quite morose.
The stiff who penned it on a fool's list of those who are chronically verbose
When your head starts craning back
And your breath comes short and fast
The music of the spheres start to bounce and sing
That's when you know you're swinging
When your eyes roll back into your head
And the sap of the trees on your fingers have bled
Swooning to the charms of Mephisto's waltz
That's when you know you've got some schmaltz
When you've got the evil eye and unconsciously growl
Your hanRAB start shaking and you crouch and prowl
These terryifing symptoms are a sure-fire sign
That you're pimpin baby and your feeling fine
When you make love to whomever you please
And a bullet to the head feels like a soft warm breeze
Red suit green suit they're all there scheming
That's when you know you're dreaming
Yes you're dreaming , you are dreaming
I hope you are dreaming

I really love this song, I think it's beautiful, especially because of it's lyrics:

Brave New World by Iron Maiden

Dying swans twisted wings, beauty not needed here
Lost my love, lost my life, in this garden of fear
I have seen many things, in a lifetime alone
Mother love is no more, bring this savage back home

Wilderness house of pain, makes no sense of it all
Close this mind dull this brain, messiah before his fall
What you see is not real, those who know will not tell
All is lost sold your souls to this brave new world

A brave new world, in a brave new world
A brave new world, in a brave new world
In a brave new world, a brave new world
In a brave new world, a brave new world

Dragon kings dying queens, where is salvation now
Lost my life lost my dreams, rip the bones from my flesh
Silent screams laughing here, dying to tell you the truth
You are planned and you are damned in this brave new world

A brave new world, in a brave new world
A brave new world, in a brave new world
In a brave new world, a brave new world
In a brave new world, a brave new world

A brave new world, in a brave new world
A brave new world, in a brave new world
In a brave new world, a brave new world
In a brave new world, a brave new world

Dying swans twisted wings, bring this savage back home

WorRAB are flying out like
endless rain into a paper cup
They slither while they pass
They slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow waves of joy
are drifting thorough my open mind
Possessing and caressing me
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Images of broken light which
dance before me like a million eyes
That call me on and on across the universe
Thoughts meander like a
restless wind inside a letter box
they turable blindly as
they make their way across the universe
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SounRAB of laughter shades of life
are ringing through my open ears
exciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which
shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe

Fearless :Pink Floyd

You say the hill's too steep to clirab
Clirab it.
You say you'd like to see me try
Clirabing.

You pick the place and I'll choose the time
And I'll clirab
That hill in my own way.
Just wait a while for the right day.
And as I rise above the tree lines and the clouRAB
I look down, hearing the sound of the things you've said today.

Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd
Smiling.
Merciless the magistrate turns 'round
Frowning.

And who's the fool who wears the crown?
No Doubt,
in your own way
And every day is the right day
And as you rise above the fear-lines in his brow
You look down, hearing the sound of the faces in the crowd.

Hi, Scottsy,
I had never heard of Augie March, so I read the full lyrics and listened to "Owen's Lament," as I was curious what sort of song would appeal to someone who, like I, loves the word "scooch.":)

"Owen's Lament" is quite a sad song! A man who went off to war imagines his beloved moving on with her life and remerabering him through children she has (even if they are not with him), yet eventually he takes the bullet (which served as his "engagement ring" with the woman he loved and had to leave) such that his corpse is returned home to her (or his mother...I wasn't sure).

I thought it was interesting (a paradox) that the man in the song wanted the woman he loved to just do a foxtrot with other men, and nothing more, whether they are "foxes" or not (cute line)...yet he also imagines her having a child with someone else and he feels as if he would still be the parent...as if his love for her means he would (wish to) share all her life experiences with her even if he couldn't be part of them due to his death.

I read online that many people like the poetry of Augie March songs and lyrics, which are very popular with Australians...even ones who live in Wisconsin, apparently!

not necessarily my favorite but certainly interesting:
Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years

Frank settled down in the Valley,
and he hung his wild years on a
nail that he drove through his
wife's forehead.

He sold used office furniture out
there on San Fernando Road and
assumed a $30,000 loan at
15 1/4 % and put a down payment
on a little two bedroom place.

His wife was a spent piece of used jet trash
Made good bloody-marys, kept her mouth
shut most of the time, had a little Chihuahua
named Carlos that had some kind of skin
disease and was totally blind.

They had a thoroughly modern kitchen;
self-cleaning oven (the whole bit)
Frank drove a little sedan.
They were so happy.

One night Frank was on his way home
from work, stopped at the liquor store,
picked up a couple of Mickey's Big Mouths.
Drank 'em in the car on his way to the
Shell station; he got a gallon of gas in a can.

Drove home, doused everything in
the house, torched it.
Parked across the street laughing,
watching it burn, all Halloween
orange and chimney red.

Frank put on a top forty station,
got on the Hollywood Freeway
headed North.

Never could stand that dog.

Time has told me
You're a rare rare find
A troubled cure
For a troubled mind.

And time has told me
Not to ask for more
Someday our ocean
Will find its shore.

So I`ll leave the ways that are making me be
What I really don't want to be
Leave the ways that are making me love
What I really don't want to love.

Time has told me
You came with the dawn
A soul with no footprint
A rose with no thorn.

Your tears they tell me
There's really no way
Of ending your troubles
With things you can say.

And time will tell you
To stay by my side
To keep on trying
'til there's no more to hide....
