What's wrong with my Mustang (besides the fact that it's a Ford?)?

It wasn't idling quite right. So hubby changed the plugs. We went out of town, and on the way back, it started missing terribly. He replaced the spark plug wires and it seemed to clear up for a few minutes. By the next evening (not having been driven), he took it to a shop to have it placed on a machine in hopes of finding out what it could be. Turns out that the machine couldn't pick up anything at all. The car is now dead, when running, it will his and spit and jerk and miss. The check engine light did not and has not came on. What could it be? The computer or distributor?
It's a 1995 GT. We put in the new plugs, and the next day were experiencing problems after taking a 4 hour drive. Smooth all the way up and missing on the way back. Hubby then goes and replaces the new spark plugs and gets new wires at the same time. Next, he gets the fuel filter and distributor cap. According to the mechanic, it should be good to go. Now he is saying that it has to be the computer or distributor.

the year of the car would help greatly in this matter. if its older(like pre 1992) it could be distributor, cap and rotor, or fuel pump. if its newer it could be ignition coils, ecu, fuel regulator, fuel pump, fuel injectors, or just a bad set of new wires(it happens). hope this helps.
