Whats wrong with my mini-bike engine?

I have a Tote-Gote mini-bike from the 1960's with a Briggs and Straton engine, 6 HP. It has sat for a few years. When I pull the crank to start it, the engine turns over but doesn't start. No matter how much times I try it, it won't start. So what I really want to know, is what are the common problems that could be affecting it? Then I will check those.

If it has sat there for a few years then the fuel has gone bad. Drain the fuel and replace it with fresh fuel

might try cleaning the carb. on it.
try replacing the spark plug.
add fuel.
