What's wrong with my Honda Civic?

Hi, yesterday my mom said she was driving my 1998 Honda Civic LX and it got really hot and started smoking. When I went to drive it today, the car would barely accelerate at all and was shaking! It took forever to start going the speed limit.
This is the first problem I have ever had with the engine.
What could be the problem? How much would it cost to fix? I am so upset that my engine is messed up!

Worst case scenario is that your cam belt is on its last legs (when was it last changed?). Don't drive it until you can get someone to look at it, or you could really stuff the engine.

Hard to know costs without knowing what the actual problem is.

I can think only think of 3 things that could be wrong

Either one of your fans stopped working, your transmission is dying out, or its your engine

good luck, hopefully is nothing to expensive

Sounds like u need a new transmission. That would explain the shaking and the acceleration problem. Take the car to a mechanic and have them check it out, i would suggest a tranmission specialist. Not only are they going to be able to give your tranmission a quality check, but they will most likely be able to tell u if theres anything else wrong with your car. I don't think your engine is the problem(Honda motors are near indestructible). It really sucks that your transmission is going out, it will most likely cost around $2000. Good Luck getting it fixed!!!
