We have two parrot fish, and they are normally very active and social. But for the past couple days, they've just been laying on the bottom of the tank, and breathing real slow. What could be wrong with them?
And could they just be getting old? My husband has had them since sometime before we got together, we've been together a year now. But I'm not sure how old the fish are. He's really upset about it, and I'm just curious as to what could be the problem, and if there is anything that can be done?
He tried cleaning the tank, and then tried a fungus treatment, but so far, nuthing seems to be helping. I'm afraid he's gonna lose his favorite fish.

Fish tend to do this when thye are full of food, its like a rest for them. They look as if they're in a coma, when they're actually devoting their energy to digesting their food.
You're just probably over feeding them i would think.

What did he do to clean the tank? If he cleaned the filter media out with tap water he may have killed off the beneficial bacteria in the filter. Do you have a test kit? If so, test the water and post the results here. Most fish stores will test your water for free if you don't have your own kit. I would do a waterchange ASAP and make sure to use dechlorinator when refilling the tank.

Keep up with water changes. The lethargy could be due to high ammonia levels or another water quality related issue.
