it starts up just fine but when you throtle it up it acts like the choke is on and has a strong smell of gas in the exaust. please help....thank you very much
sorry about not giving enough info..........its a 2004 Honda CRF70F

It's running too rich......check to see if the choke is sticking or if your air/fuel screw is set right......have you ever cleaned the carb?!.....you should do it at least once every year or so. Hope this helps.

sounds like an open throttle rich situation. possible causes are main jet unscrewed-choke stuck open(actually its a mixture enrichment system not a choke in the usual sense)-if the carb has a power jet then that too can be suspected of being loose. it has to get the extra fuel from somewhere.

its definitely too rich. check the air mixture screw. it is mostly on the bottom right under the air intake port on the carb. screw it in all the way, then screw it out exactly 1.5 turns. that is the stock adjustment. Try it. if the it is still acting up, check the air filter. clean it if it needs cleaned or replace if needed. still not fixed? change the spark plug. If that doesn't work then take the carb off and clean it. Take the float bowl off and remove all the jets. make sure you can see light through them blow them out if you can't. Use an air compresser to blow out all of the ports in the carb and replace all parts and carb. That should take care of the problem. hope this helped

For future reference, always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking question. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.

Dirty air cleaner will cause it to run rich.
Low compression won't fully burn the fuel and dump raw gas into the exhaust pipe.
2 stroke engines require rebuilding the top end frequently (cylinder, piston & rings).
Replace the rings once a year and it will last very long.
