Whats wrong with my 1998 Ford Explorer XLT?

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer XLT that when getting up to speed on the highway at about 45 to 55 mph depending how hard im on it ti revs up to around 4 1/2 to 5 grand then drops to 3500 at 70 mph then after a bit it shifts and settles at 2500 rpm's when i go up a hill it revs back up again then starts the process over again it drops to 3500 then shifts and runs at 2500 rpm's. I just had the tranny flushed and it still does it. please someone help me !!!!!!!!!
There is no fault light on, I was told by a friend that it might be a speed control sensor, but there is no fault light on. when the cruise control is on and i start to go up a hill and the truck starts to slow it tries to maintain speed but it shifts and revs up
Accelerating to over 5000 RPM'S is not normal automatic tranny with overdrive conditions! just trying to help with possible answers. Thank you for the help!
 
depending on how long its been since you had the trans serviced, the ecm may have to just relearn the shift patterns.
 
does it do this issue up hill or on flat ground, and are you adding throttle when it down shifts or if you hold the padal at the same position and it downshifts, is the vehicle slowing down and then it shifts
if you are driving, and not adding throttle, and it is up and down shifting, then the issue is the throttle valve adjustment and will need to be set by a mechanic. could also be internal solenoid issue in the trans
Is the check engine light on, for sensors in the trans will set the light if there is a fault code
take it to a mechanic
sounds like you have an internal issue that just flushing the fluid will not fix
 
That's called an automatic transmission. The torque converter locks and unlocks and it goes in and out of overdrive as the load varies. It's what it's suppose to do.
Explorers tend to do that a lot. It's just the way the controller works.
