My 1998 Ford Contour will not go more than 40 up hills, sometimes maxing out at 35. Sometimes when I get to stop signs it will run so rough it dies, but then re-cranks. I have changed the 0xygen sensor and the cam shaft sensor, but it started back recently, when I'm driving it will jerk and knock me forward sometimes, like the cartoonish put-put-put. Help?! What's wrong with my dumb car?

Best bet, take it to a shop and pay them to just plug it in and for them to analize the problem.

LMAO. Just wanted to add some words of encouragement. It reminds me of the Ford Probe I used to have. The day I brought it home the clear coat got a little bubble, and the paint seemed to chip off at rapid speed after that. It would turn off at stop signs and red lights, the sun roof had a leak so when it rained or I went through the car wash it would leak, (not a drip drip, but a woosh woosh, lol). The air condition didnt work and the belt would make a LOUD high pitch squealing that didnt stop (until the car turned off at the stop sign on the corner of course). OH! And I almost forgot the best part...it had an oil leak that could only be fixed by removing the engine (which would cost more than the car was worth) and the leak was so bad that I would have to fill it up when i left the house and it would be all drained out by the time i reached my destination! Hang in there, in only gets better.

I gotta laugh at Ju's answer !!

Have you checked your spark plugs and leads?
Have you checked your fuel filter?
Is there a lot of grey/black smoke coming from the exhaust?
If yes, it's getting too much fuel.
Do you fuel up with "cheap" fuel? this can cause injectors to become clogged, that can do it too.

Sorry but there's a whole lot of things it might be.
