Im 18 years old, in July of 2008, i crashed on my dirtbike and had knee surgery(cut that went deep to my knee joint so the docs cleaned it out), well i spent 3 nights in the hospital, 4 days. They gave me tons of antibiotics through my IV which would make me nauseous at the time. Up until July, i was 100% healthy, never had any health problems at all. Since i got out of the hospital i have been sick constantly. Heres a quick list i typed up.

Pre-July 2008 Healthy as can be, occasional colds.

July 11th, 2008 Knee surgery, in UC Davis for 2 nights

August 9th, 2008 2 hours, sick to stomach, then fine

August 14-30, 2008 Random nausea, dizziness, bad feeling,
stayed home from school

August 30, 2008 Feel like crap(morning), throw up(10a.m.) and feel fine

August 31, 2008 Feel horrible, hung over feeling, all day

September-December Random bad days, feel hung over, bad, just want to sleep and lay down, no appetite yet I haven’t eaten all day

December 22, 2008 Catch flu, sick for 3 days, recovering for 5 days

December 31, 2008 High fever, throats swollen

January 8th & 9th, 2009 Sick, high fever (102degrees), lymph notes on neck still swollen

I have been to the docs several times, my first doctor thought i had acid reflex, so i was put on protonix, which didnt help. I drank barium and had xrays taken to see if i had an ulcer, which i didnt. I had blood tests done, which included a test for h. pylori. Everything was healthy though.

Obviously something is wrong. I just want to feel good again. My question, what direction should i look? Could this be an HIV/aids contracted through the hospital? And lastly, if i have blood tests done, would it catch an HIV or aids if it wasnt specifically tested for?

Sorry to go on and on about it. Thanks for any help. I truely appreciate it, Andrew

Also, in august i started smoking cigarettes, i quit and havn't smoked since december 30th. Could i have been slightly allergic to them?

Also, my mom stayed in the hospital with me(i was a minor at the time) and she also has had health issues. Hers arnt as bad as mine, but still affecting her. She has had yeast infections, from my understanding(im not fully aware of her issues lol). But her problems are finally residing. Where mine are seeming to get worse.

Firstly I am not a dr...this is just my opinion.....Did you hurt any where else other than your knee when you fell? You may have caused some damage to your inner ear from the fall that may cause the dizziness and foggy feelings? I have had recent ear surgery and can empathise with these feelings...
if it was a bad fall your body will take time to heal from it too.
I would keep a journal of all your symptoms as you have here and show them to your doc and see what he/she thinks.
SOme of your issues like the flu and recent fevers may be that you immune system is already low since your recovery and you are more suceptible to picking up viruses and infections?
As for the smoking it probably didn't help your body recover sufficently from the crash...I would quit them completely ;)
Regarding your mom it may be stress causing her issues worrying about your recovery maybe.....
if you have concerns about the hospital can you ask your dr his opinion on that?

Thanks for the reply, i appreciate it. Ya, all of those are a possibility. As for my ear, i dont think that could be it. I really didnt crash hard, it was more of a slide that just tore my knee open. Ill definitely look into it though. thanks again
