What's with the Catholic/other debate?

I don't understand. How can people say that the Catholics aren't real Christians when Catholicism was the first Christian denomination (before people began to branch off)? The logic doesn't make sense to me. I'm Jewish and I don't believe in the trinity stuff, but what makes Catholics any worse than any other denomination? I think it's stupid to denounce people who believe the basic tennants of your religion, even if their opinion or practice differs somewhat. You're supposed to stick together. I have heard things like "They worship Mary instead of Jesus"- but that's not true. My grandmother is catholic and she doesn't worship Mary. As far as the 'idol worship' debate, Catholics aren't any worse about praying to Saints etc than other Christian denominations are about praying to a man. I'm just not understanding the blanket criticism.
No apostle called themselves Pentacostles, Methodists, Catholic, or Morman either- so what's your point? Catholics were the first denomination, historically proven.

Maybe they used to, but I don't see the 'ganging up' now. My grandmother loves that I am Jewish and I'm no more likely to be ganged up on by Catholics than any other denomination of Christianity. Another blanket generalization.

Look at the doctrine of the catholic church & you tell me if it lines up with Scripture.

Nope

I can't even begin to list all the flaws here that makes them the "harlot" mentioned in Revelation......
 
If you take a look at fundamentalists' core beliefs, you'll see that they aren't much different from a cult, themselves. They tend to have a "black or white, us or them, good or evil" mind set, and outsiders are treated with suspicion. By that way of thinking, anyone who is different is automatically wrong and evil -- be it Catholics, Mormons, JW's, etc.

Add to that the fact that Catholicism has been around a lot longer than fundamentalism, and you can see where the problems arise. I've always gotten the feeling that fundamentalists are trying to compensate for their lack of age and authenticity by attacking the one Church known for its antiquity and solid foundation of beliefs.

Catholics tend to be "live and let live" sort of people because we know our Church's history. We know the origins of our Faith and are confident in what we believe. Maybe when/if fundamentalism has been around as long as Catholicism, they won't feel threatened by older, more established denominations, either.

Because they have an exclusivist, sectarian mentality.

It's the same mentality that makes a club popular, as long as you have ridiculous line-ups, and somebody is being kept out of the club. It makes you feel better about yourself being let in, while other people are left out. Is it any coincidence that both places are characterized by a lot of noise, and not much in terms of substance?

They looked around and saw there were two billion Christians in the world. Seemed like a lot. Didn't make them feel quite special enough. So a lot of people had to be excluded. You can easily find reasons to exclude people. The Pope says evolution is OK. They have prayers to the virgin Mary. Oh my! Oh my!

Having an adult discussion about this and its meaning would be one option, but it's much easier to just reject the whole group entirely.

The fundie mentality is all about feeling exclusive and superior to one's fellow man. Being saved, means being above. It's a mentality of revenge. There's no way around it.

how do you debate that God Tells/Commands ALL to Seek the Truth (His Word and Law), lest ye be decieved....if we would all Obey and Please God rather than man, we'd be Blessed inmore ways than I can say:-) your denomination prays to or through the Dead. the dead can do absolutley Nothing for anyone, agreed? they are "asleep and knowing nothing" it clearly defines this in Scripture/Truth, there are only 13 Traditions in God's Word and only "2" are "positive", the catholic denomination as a multitude of man made traditions, agreed? in fact, the early RCC corrupted God's Word and Law, even took "Authority" away from God to hear and forgive sin, the also "Changed" God's Holy day, the 7th day/Sabbath to sun day so pagans would come into their church, hence creating more wealth through their offerings....their own Monk Martin Luther attempted to bring to them the importance of correcting this blaspheme to no avail, and thus creating Protestantism who refused to stray from God's actual Word and Law, I Praise God fo helping them :-) God tells us ALL to Seek the Truth, lest ye be decieved, but catholics here tell me they aren't "allowed" because their priests (again) only have the "authority" to Spread/teach the Word and Law, so...who will this denomination Obey and Please, God? or man? or are they in "fear" of their priests but not of God? we are here to remind them to obey God and urge them to Seek the Truth, Understand the Truth and Live in It
:-) I once was a catholic, after being led to the Truth, His Holy Word and Law, I have seen the Light, the Way and I desire all of God's children to know they are "entitled" to the Truth also :-) I care, God Cares MORE, we do not pray to "man" so I don't know to whom you are referring?
