When I was a teen, I'd get drunk to the point that if I was sitting with my eyes closed, I'd feel myself back-flipping. I always stopped myself out of general fear and general nausea. I *usually* stopped drinking at that point.
Many years later, while performing empty mind (zazen) meditation, within the first minute or so, I would sometimes get that flipping backward feeling. When I just went with that feeling, I'd flip backward so fast I felt I turned into something like an electron triggering a circle of electricity. After about ten to thirty seconds, I come out of it naturally...albeit a bit dizzy and have to literally do a little shake to get off the energy residue (or whatever).
BTW: No, There are no drugs involved. For the past twenty years, I probably average one beer per month (nothing else).
So what the heck is flipping thing all about?
