What's with my Honda Rebel?

I have a 250 Rebel, and there was no ignition when we got it, so we put a car ignition on it. The key turns off the electrical system, but it won't kill the engine. That's not the problem, though. Ever since this ignition was put on, the battery drains while it's running. Dad seems to think it's a short. What's wrong with it?
What all do you need to know? I don't know much about it, but if you ask, I might be able to tell.

You put a car ignition on it. Whatever that consists of? It's wired incorrectly and like your installation you don't give enough information to trouble shoot it. Start looking for a wiring diagram. If you can read one it will help guide you.
