Whats with all these marathon-type blocks of a certain cartoon lately? I noticed in todays paper that theres a 3 hr marathon of phineas and ferb on disney channel tonight. Thats all fine and well as i happen to be a P&F fan, but whats the purpose? Nick and Cartoon Network are guilty of the same thing. Why is this trend so popular nowadays?

It's because Phineas & Ferb is a high rated show and Disney knows that P&F puts butts in seats. The network's most popular shows typically get played to death. Marathons are also a good thing when you don't have any premieres or you don't feel like programming for a couple of hours.

I remember when marathons were reserved for *special* events. Like series premieres, exiting the network, holiday showings, etc.

Constant showings wear a show out, at least to me.

Like Blackstar said, it's what people will watch. My stepson and I will sit and watch hour after hour of Phineas & Ferb and Family Guy blocks. Especially during times of the year when there's not a lot of new episodes out there.

I know its not a cartoon, but the eight episode 'Victorious' was airing 4 episodes a day Monday through Friday on Nickelodeon. That is ridiculous how much its being overplayed. But i guess it doesn't matter as long as it gets the ratings...
