What's up with "Made in Finland" phones?

the 8890 was better suited for sms messages even tho the keys are tiny. Better spacing and I used it for so long I guess it just doesnt feel small anymore.

I'm on my 8th Nokia phone. Where it's made has made absolutely no difference to me. Think about it, a company the size of Nokia with its experience knows how to control quality no matter where the plant is. That's what quality control engineers are for.

The made in Finland crap is just people finding another way of saying "I'm better than you."

I dont think anyone can argue with you regarding the parts..memory, LCD, etc..are probably manufactured in Asia. The real debate is assembly.

This IMO is where science becomes subjective. Personally, I want my phone to have it's FINAL inspection done in Finland. Period! Fender Musical Equimpent was terrible when it was manufactured abroad. In the 1960's, CBS bought out Fender and opened factories in other countries. The amplifiers and guitars from that era deemed pre-cbs are worth a fortune at this time. I personally have tested pre and post products from Fender and can testify to the fact that the differences are extreme. Another example is Shure microphones. I've been collecting harmonica microphones for more than 10 years and again, Mexican made Shures are worthless and toneless. The mics that came out of Chicago are far superior and the value proves it. I've been playing harmonica for 14 years and I can again tell you the differences in tone and build quality are extreme. If you look at Fender it proudly stamps Made in America on their equipment. Why?...because it DOES make a difference. Their budget company Squier has equipment coming out of Mexico and Korea (not sure about Korea) ...but again, an obvious difference as the components and construction are not the same. I would like to think the world has evolved to the point that the origin of each unit matters not, but it appears it does. Especially when your dealing with the final stage of which human eye is evaluating. This debate could be worthless as the above member posted that his Finnish made N80 is loose as a goose but for me it boils down to this; Do I want Jimbo Smith preparing my Sushi or do I want Mineko Takane? Same fish...Same knives....different results. Or is it??
Sometimes the Origin is a big deal....in the case of Nokia i'm still not completely sure but on a high dollar investment like an N95 or E90 I feel more comfortable with Finland made as i've experienced better results with their handsets.

It's been an unused back up for so long I figure i should just put it to the cause. I'll probably get the 8800scirocco if they ever release an 850 version anyway. Or wait for the s60 version of the 8800 series. That would be slick!! The could almost get away with it nowusing the 5500s specs

yeah..its too easy pressing the wrong key on the 8801. There is no spacing at all in the 8801. Only thing i like are the ringtones and the style. I might get one myself to keep if its around 150 usd.

Made in Finland is all bs......and itz bs cause that is saying Finland is better than China.....which is untrue, CHina are pretty advanced rit now. CHINA ftw

Thats true...they'll probably release the nicest looking 8000 series with s60 and leave out the 850....i'll kill someone if that happens....probably some iphone yuppie but kill nonetheless.

So you're saying you've actually compared two identical Nokia phone models (N80) made in different countries and observed a noticeable difference? If so, you're the first to come forward with such evidence since I started asking for it some time ago.

I'm interested to hear what you noticed. Other than the loose slider and battery cover, which you say were common to both versions, could you describe in some measure of detail what differences you were able to detect between the Finnish and the non-Finnish versions, in terms of either build quality or phone function? The more specific detail the better, as solid data on this subject is sorely lacking.

Nokia is Finland's biggest manufacturer of anything. it's their pride. this is almost all that Finland has (biside Santa). So they make it very high quality. that's all folks
