What's up with all the corn jokes in the sitcom Roseanne?

Probably something the writers decided to put in. Alfred Hitchcock liked to appear in all his movies briefly and fans of his work loved to try to spot him. Another example is Family Guy. At some point in the every show one of the characters will say "what the hell" on one occasion it was "what the {{{BLEEP}}}"
 
In like every episode, especially the first season, but even thruout the series, there's some reference to "corn", especially "creamed corn". What's up with that??
