what's this with vista and mp3s?

No, it won't do anything to mp3s or divx movies, or anything you download. Just make sure if you use Windows Media Player to uncheck all the boxes on startup that ask if you want it to automatically get information about songs on the Internet, I'm not even sure if that's bad but I unchecked it just incase.
 
Vista automatically connects to M$'s DRM Enforcer™ server, which scans for any DRM-free files.
If any are found, they are automatically deleted without warning, and the portion of the hard drive they were on is overwritten with dummy data 20 different times to prevent any possible recovery.
 
the same Windows Media Player thing appears in XP, it's just a list of options for things to automatically do, just uncheck them.

everyone seems scared of Vista
 
I lost a whole terabyte of MP3s, and I can't even connect to Oink to download anything... We're talking thousands of dollars here, and because they've flagged me as a downloader, I can only buy directly from M$'s store. Their shit's even more expensive, like $1.50 a song.
I would uninstall, but the BIOS won't let me boot from CD or floppy anymore.
 
so if i create mp3s from a cd that i own and have them on my hard drive...they will get deleted? how is that considered illegal?

exactly how is this done? you dont have any internet connection when vista is installing, no net drivers are loaded at that point. If anything it loads a lan driver, just unplug your fucking cable.

Vista won't touch your MP3s or movie files or add anything to them.


Now if you use a program like Windows Media Player or Itunes and specify that it manages your files and can retrieve info from the net and update your files with it... then they are modified.

Been using Vista for awhile now and it has never caused a problem with my MP3s. They play fine on any other computer or player without restrictions or being modified. Not to mention all my "backed up" movies and software still works fine. I can rip a DVD without Vista intruding.
