What's the typical life span of a catalytic converter on an 02 Ford Focus SE?

The car has right at 92k miles, and it's throwing up a check engine code P0420 which is supposedly either the downstream O2 sensor or and insufficient cat. I put a new O2 sensor on, reset the computer, and after a couple of days that same code came up again. Is it possible the converter is going bad? 92K just doesn't seem like THAT many miles.
 
Well, A cats life its about 100k miles, Now 92 is almost there but sometimes they do that, Annoying little buggers. Well if you reset the code im guessing you have your own computer? congrats. Yeah just change the cat. Easy job if you have bolt on exhaust. if its a weld on your going to have to have a shop do it and cut it out
 
Sometime it's not the converter. Check spark plug gap and or replace the spark plugs.

Why you ask...
Basically your car is running to rich and your 02 sensor is detecting that. So try the plugs and reset the computer. Drive it 30 miles and see if the problem stays gone.
