I'm a first year college student taking up Bachelor's degree in English Language and i'm studying 9 subjects like English, Sociology, Theology, etc. but why is Chemistry the subject which has the largest number of units? Is it that important to my course? What's the relation of Chemistry to my course?

People who major in the arts should take at least one science course to round out their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Our standard of living today is largely due to the accomplishments of science, and everyone should have a basic understanding of and an appreciation for how science goes about its "business". Chemistry may have extra units because of the laboratory classes.
