What's the price to replace the sump on a Ford Focus?

I've got an 02 plate 2.0 litre Ford Focus, done around 65000 miles, on my last service the garage told me that the sump is porous and leaking and needs replacing. It is losing a bit of oil, but not much. They said it will cost £319 to replace, is this a reasonable price? Also, is it something that needs doing urgently? Will it last for a while as it is as long as I keep an eye on the oil level? Or am I risking major damage by not having it replaced yet?

If the oil leaks and it drops too low then the loss of pressure could wreck the engine. It needs checking and topping up to the max mark everyday if you are going to continue to use it to be safe.

Price sounds a lot to me and I would shop around a bit. It is a relatively simple job once the car is up in the air and you do not have to have a Ford dealer to do it.
