In having an unlocked phone? what are the benefits?

i asked this in another thread and no one has responded.

unlocked is so you can use it with another carrier.
example is only tmo had the pearl, users from cingy could get it unlocked and use it on their carrier.

so that's it? there's no other benefits? i mean, i knew you could use an unlocked phone for any carrier, but i just firgured with so many ppl wanting it unlocked there had to be some other great benefits.

nope thats it.
there is unlocking the vendor themes.
it allows you to use diff themes from diff carriers.
totally diff thing.

It also helps for resale value. But other than that, nothing really special.

Another benefit. Factory unlocked means you aren't stuck with embedded carrier programs and a hot-wired browser to the carrier's media services.

although I have not used an unlocked device in a while now, I never had any problems with them, or lose of functions...
