I don't really get it. I've gone through my life treating masculinity as a joke.
I understand the intent of people wanting to appear strong and capable of handling all situations but the truth is nobody is like that. Nobody can handle every situation that comes up and putting yourself in a position where if you reveal to people you can't handle something or don't understand something it counts against your credability seems self detrimental to me.
I've messed with so many people by acting masculine and then slowly breaking it down, showing that it doesn't actually mean anything significant. I have plenty of friends, and one thing I can say with pride is I have no enemies or even people I truly dislike, so it's not like... a social "requirement" for a guy to act masculine. The only social problem I've come across is getting people that don't know me that well to treat me seriously, but once they get to know me it's fine.
So tell me, why do so many guys hold so tight to this idea of masculinity?
