Whats the point of higher resolution games?

I dont understand the point of higher resolution games, like for example modern warfare 2 looks the same on 1024x786 and on the lowest resolution. can anyone explain the difference? I see no point in games having muiltple resolutions if they look the same on every resolution.

Higher resolution is meant for bigger screens. So if you can't get get a bigger screen, keep the lowest resolution that still looks good for better speed and less glitches.

well it might be your screen but all screens are different because some dont support high resolutions
