...surroundings, but cannot talk? I am not talking about a coma.

I heard about this man that was in a car accident, a decade or two ago, and now he is in a wheelchair. He is aware of everything, but he cannot speak. I am trying to remember his name or the name of the medical condition he had.

The short term one where it only lasts for a while is called sleep paralysis, but thats not where you are in a wheelchair, it can happen sometimes when your body is asleep but you are awake but you cant talk or move

Well for short term it could a seizure or sleep paralysis. But as for long term he is mute, he could have had a head injury that made him that way and if he is unable to walk because he is paralyzed he could have had a spinal cord injury.
