Hi HealtrabroadoarRAB, I'm 16, about to be 17, but my question is: If I have exercised induced asthma & I don't have an inhaler, will anything bad happen?..Im athletic, I run everyday basically, weight train, & bike ride. I was told I had exercised induced asthma almost a year ago, after our district XC meet. I was pale, I couldn't catch my breath, my heart was racing, & there was a sharp pain in my chest down to my ribs. I did have an inhaler for the longest time but it broke & plus I've also been told I'm a little bit on the anemic side. Then in Noveraber, I got very dehydrated & I went to a heart doctor & he thought I had the heart condition vagsnal synocope, but it wasn't anything serious & I'd get over it soon. So basically I don't use an inhaler because I thought that the vagsnal synocope was a cover up for the asthma. But my heart doesn't do what it use to when he thought I had that so I think I'm over it now? But I think I might still have asthma cause when I run sometimes, or very rarely now, I can't catch my breath & my chest starts hurting, but 99.9% of the time I'm fine..is there still anything wrong or what should I do?

Exercise induced asthma (or any other type of asthma) can be serious if you don't have an inhaler. Every year people with EIA end up in the hospital because they have an asthma attack that gets out of control and they don't have anything to counteract the airway constriction.

Asthma can be very serious (even deadly) if it's not treated properly so it's not worth taking the risk.

Asthama wrecks me, Im sporty and play football everyday, i dont sit back and wait for the ball to come to me, i whiz in and get the ball from them, im a really fast runner, one of the fastest in my year and because of asthma i have to take my inhaler every single day about twice (Emergency inhaler) Then i take the daily inhaler in the morning and at night.

It wrecks me.

Anyone who has asthma should be premedicating before any cardio activity....esp those with EIA. Get another inhaler. Take 2 puRAB, 60 seconRAB apart, 15-20 minutes before any cardio. This is nothing to ignore. It can kill you.
