What's the difference between singing pop music vs opera music?

10 POINTS BEST ANSWER! I recently started taking voice lessons (without prior choir or any type of singing experience) and my teacher believes I have the voice for opera. I can naturally hit some very high notes and have a strong voice. So I guess I'm taking classical voice lessons. I'm learning technique still for classical training, but wanted to know if it is the same as pop training? From my own observations, it seems that the only difference in the SOUND of the voice is that opera has a TON of vibrato (kinda like cat purring) and is narrow, versus pop which is pretty much like vibrato-less in comparison, and is more wide. (is this observation correct?) I want to know the difference, because if I do opera, I get the feeling I have to work more on my vibrato (I don't have very much) And if I train myself to develop that kind of opera-like vibrato in which the sound is spinning, will it be harder to later down the road sing pop music? Or will I still be able to sing pop music with less vibrato? Is less vibrato a characteristic of pop music? Sorry for all the Qs, but I am very confused, and new to singing and I want to know everything there is to know i guess. haha =)
