I realize that drugs like Prilosec are in the class of protein pump inhibitors, and I read that Pepcid AC is an H2RA. I was wondering what the basic difference is between these two kinds of drugs and how they work in preventing heartburn.
I am asking this because I have developed an ulcer, and they say to use PPIs, but they tend to be more expensive and Pepcid AC seems to work so far. Am I safe to keep using the H2RA (Pepcid AC and the like for antacids) until I can afford to fully treat my ulcer? Or does it really matter which one works so long as it does?
Thanks!
