If you took away all of humanities references on the supernatural it would disappear completely, where as the natural world would remain.
People only believe in god because of what they have been 'told' about god, he doesn't exist outside of our stories about him, and has no effect on the physical world outside of this.
That is why gods vary so much between cultures.
This is so blindingly obvious, I really can't understand why otherwise intelligent people can't grasp it.
