Whats the difference between hard drive and flash memory?

I'm trying to decide if an ipod touch with flash memory would be better or a 160GB ipod classic with hard drive memory?whats the difference? Whats better?
 
HDD = a lot of space for songs you wish to buy (thus more money you might spend)
Flash = less space, less power consumption
Best = your choice... if there was best option then you would not find other options on the market...
I would go with HDD... but I would not buy iPod touch on the first place - there are other cheaper options and I see no reason to buy a toy that I would use for a week and then forget about all the functionality that it offers... I would buy a cheap mp3-player with replaceable battery.
