What's the difference between Bluetooth and Bluetooth 2?

Can someone please explain to me the difference between Bluetooth and Bluetooth stereo (A2DP).

This doesn't have anything to do with the walkman being in stereo does it?? I will be using wired headphones to listen to the walkman and would assume that it would be in stereo... but you know what happens when you 'assume'!! I'm wondering if this only matters if you're using Bluetooth headphones...? Or maybe it doesn't have anything to do with the music whatsoever.

I just need some clarification on what exactly the difference is between the two. I'm currently looking at the W810i and the W710i. I would also appreciate your opinion on both phones if you care to share it.

I currently have a 1st generation razr which has been an excellent phone but doesn't really do much else. Christmas is coming and I need to start dropping my hints!! :smart:

Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) is just that, you can listen to music via wireless headphones. Regular Bluetooth, is mono, so you can only listen through one earpiece.

The W810i has a better 2MP camera with AutoFocus and LED flash (which can also be used as a flashlight). It does not have A2DP, nor can you upgrade to it. It has, IMO, one of the best keypads for texting. Plus, it supports the cheaper Memory Stick Pro Duo cards for external memory.

The W710i does not have AutoFocus for its 2MP camera, which makes the pictures a bit more grainy when compared to the pics taken by the W810i, especially when lighting conditions are not that well. It's a little bulky IMO, but the flip design is very sturdy. It doesn't have the spring assist when opening, so it won't wear down as easily as other flip phones. The display is more crisp and bright than that of the W810i, which is a little dark by contrast. It also has the updated Walkman 2.0 application, which is more intuitive. It supports the newer technology Memory Stick Micro M2, which is pretty much the equivalent the MicroSD cards. They keys are pretty big for easy texting. It has A2DP. And it also has a fitness application to gauge how many steps you have taken, and I think how many calories you would burn (nifty app for joggers).

I've had both phones for a while. I sold the W710i first because I'm just not a fan of flip phones. The W810i is a great phone, I later sold it because it had the old Walkman application. I've found that Walkman 2.0 (which the W710i has) was way better if like to listen to music alot, and my cell phone has pretty much replaced my MP3 players. If you're really set on the form of the W810i, but want A2DP, you might want to consider the W610i. It's a bar phone that's thinner than the W810i, crisp display, AutoFocus 2MP camera, LED flash. However, the keys might disuade you because they are thin, and some users didn't get used to that. But if you're not that critical of it, the W610i is a decent "upgrade" to the W810i.

If you're into the thin profile and don't really care for the AutoFocus camera, you also might want to consider the W580i. It's just like the W710i, but in a slim slider form factor.

Wow, thanks for explaining that. I was a little confused too and wasn't sure how that would work out. Going to have to figure out if I can use what I have afterall though.
 
Just something to remember, even though a phone is enabled with A2DP, you can't listen to the radio with Bluetooth stereo headphones. However, you can listen to your MP3s with them. You can also use your BT stereo headsets for voice if they support it. I usually use my Motorola S9 headset to listen to MP3s, as well for phone coversations.
