i have a toirtoise which i free to roam all around the garden, i hardley ever see it it except summer, it looks after itself.

Most pets are going to need a lot of time and money spent on them. The initial cost might not be much, but the vets bills, food etc will be. Perhaps something like a hamster which will entertain itself (or 2, cos one will get lonely).

But personally i think if you can't afford the time or money, then you shouldn't have a pet.
