I was wondering what the largest chain-ring anyone has seen or used on a BMX bike was. I'm helping a friend with a bike project and although I frequently work on road bikes and track bikes I didn't know what would be the most effective gearing for him. Basically he wants a fast (keeping up with traffic on the way to work), yet nimble and little(jump off curbs and park benches ), commuter bike he can beat up hence, the adult BMX frame he chose to use as a platform for this project. I've seen 42's and 44's but do they get bigger? I run a 50 on one of my track bikes (full size NOT BMX) and love it. Would this issue be frame specific? If so it would be extremely helpful for us if we knew what year and make of the frame you saw.
