What's the best way to find some new riding buddies?

I was having this same issue before I joined my M/C, now I have plenty of guys to ride with and have taken several out of town trips because of them. Having said that, they're still some flakes and issues with getting folks together to ride. But all in all, joining a club or even your local HOG will shake you out a few guys to ride with...

We picked up a straggler one time and he kept "sling shotting" behind us.
That means he would fall way behind, then speed to catch up. Then drag ass behind, speed to catch up. ect ect

To make a long gory story short, we (the orginal riding buddies) decided to pull off for some gas and this guy wasn't paying any attention and as we slowed down to turn into the gas station he was gainging speed trying to catch up, then he slammed on his breaks and I saw him and the bike tumbling down the highway in my rearview mirror.

To make a long story short he was Life Flighted outta there on a Helicopter than landed in the highway.

We didn't even know they guy. So you don't have a clue with stragglers if they know how to ride or not.

find all the clubs in your area, hit the poker runs and small rally's locally is a good way to find these guys, tell them your looking for others to ride with and you would like to get to know them and find out how and when they meet..and go ride with them, thats how i have been doing it. Some of them are actually members here. rode with a few of them today and we made a good long ride, lots of fun.

Start with one or 2 of the local HOG chapters. Take a couple rides with them. Find out who the really good riders are that might be little frustrated with the pace of a HOG Chapter ride. Invariably those better riders will have another group they ride with when they're not with the Chapter.

Once they're comfortable with your riding skill, ask them if you could join them for a non-Chapter ride. That's the group you want to be riding with. A more experienced group that has fun and knows each other. Unfortunately the Hog Chapter rides just have to much variability in riding skill so their rides inevitably are reduced to the lowest common denominator.
