What's the best way to dispose of florescent light bulbs?

I know that they contain mercury, and they aren't supposed to go to the land fill, so what do we do with them?
 
They just came out with them. They last 7 years why are you asking this question yet? They are suposed to be "green" but it sounds like they can kill you and are not good to throw away. What a great idea to make us feel good about our selves. We keep buying them and china cranks up production of them for us. China is not "Green". They are pumping up more black smoke in the air to make your "green" bulbs. Keep buying them to feel good about saving our planet. Try not to break any or youll need a haz-mat team at your house. And global warming is a hoax.

Check with your curbside recycling service, they may offer cfl or mercury recycling.

Check with your county sanitation dept, there may be a place to drop them off locally.

Ikea offers a free take back program for used CFL's (and check with your local Home Depot, most of them have started this as well)
