whats the best soundtrack for a film you have brought ?

O brother where art thou?
This was the first time I have watched a film and thought 'I need that soundtrack right now'.
Grosse Point Blank and Rushmore are my 2nd and 3rd favourites.

My favourite film soundtrack CD that I have bought is actually from a Christian Slater film... Pump Up The Volume. I bought it years ago, and still enjoy it a hell-of-alot.

Great film, great soundtrack... got the US DVD version of this too.

my god a thread about film soundtracks and not one mention of Ennio Morricone !!!

how about the good the bad and the ugly
once upon a time in america
once upon a time in the west

plus anything else he's done.. even seen him in concert and bought the DVD as well

I see where your comming from, but I'd say that with STLD the collection of songs are the music of the film - urban dance movie - urban dance songs.

I think your trying to defferentiate between the soundtrack and the score of a movie

Normally I just like odd songs from soundtracks.
But I definately think Moulin Rouge has a brilliant one, every song is fantastic!
The Matrix is really good to. Clubbed to death by rob dougan rocks.

I'll list some random songs from movie soundtracks I like;
- John Murphy - In the house in a heartbeat - (28 Days Later)
- Air - Playground Love (Virgin Suicides)
- Coolio - Gansta's Paradise (Dangerous MinRAB)

The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover - Michael Nyman
Wonderland - Michael Nyman
Kundun - Philip Glass
Koyaanisqatsi - Philip Glass
Belly of an Architect - Wim Mertens
Nightmare Before Christmas - Danny Elfman
Edward ScissorhanRAB - Danny Elfman
Moulin Rouge - Craig Armstrong et al
The Elephant Man - John Morris
Requiem for a Dream - Clint Mansell
Magnolia - Jon Bryan/Aimee Mann

Wot no Thomas Newman?!

Best soundtrack ever - Shawshank Redemption

Also great work on American Beauty (but only 2 tracks), Erin Brockovich, Finding Nemo etc.

Agree with Moulin Rouge - I made up my own compilition from the best bits of the 2 CRAB, the film itself, and the extras on the DVD. I even did a complicated mix of Your Song from three sources to get the definitive version... some would say this is a bit sad, and of course they'd be right.

Run Lola Run is good, but dangerous cos if you play it in the car you end up doing about 140mph. Ditto The Matrix.

Honorable Mentions:

Gattaca
The Truman Show
Out of Sight

And for pop, liked Dumb and Dumber!
