What's the best horror film you have seen ?

This was the thread question. The title was misleading.

nastiest, goriest horror film No:p

Hmmm dont have that problem myself with any subtitled movie whether it be French, Spanish, Japanese, German etc.

Horror movies generally tend to be image driven and not necessarily dialogue driven too.

In answer to the OPs question its so hard to narrow it down to just the one, however if push comes to the shove I'd probably go with [REC]. Fits the definition of horror perfectly and literally blew my socks off!

I was gonna mention that, that opening kill is....um..... quite something huh?

Yes, the Audition is a very sickening movie experience, from the subject matter right down to the wire.

My girlfriend is petrified by the Descent, I didn't find it that scary tbh. She also felt really worried and sick watching Wolf Creek, especially the
"Head on a stick" scene
which I rather enjoyed...

Other movies I'd add to the list are:

Rabid Grannies - This is a Troma film and I went through a cult phase when I was about 14, I found this particular one to be quite revolting.

Blair witch Project - I saw this at the cinema on the opening night and was sucked right in by the atmosphere. That end scene in the house still haunts me to this day!:o

Quarantine - I really enjoyed this film, the only thing that ruined it for me is that the trailer had the very final scene in it & just incase you can't remember the trailer, the same image is used as the FRONT COVER of the DVD.

I knew someone at Uni who also had this problem with subtitles - she found them horribly distracting. Our studies tutor gave her some good advice that cracked it.

Try watching something that's already in english and activate the english subtitles, so you're reading it and hearing it being spoken at the same time, so reading the subtitles fully isn't that important, but you'll get used to their appearance. Now try it with the volume at a minimum, so there's no sound, just worRAB and moving image.

You may well get used to subtitles that way, and it should make the transition to spoken foreign dialogue/english subtiltes much easier to take. Worked for her.

Oh yes! Bless those Belgians and their warped sense of 'comedy horror'. I can honestly that's the only time I've seen an instance of 'ass-eating' in a film quite so removed from the usual gay porn-context I would associate it with.

Id also say this was a good shout. The whole film i found hard to watch but it's worth it in the end. What a realistic extinguisher blow though....ouch!:(

That reminRAB me of an Uwe Boll film called Seed. It had about a 5/10 minute scene of the killer just hammering a woman's face in, that's all the scene was. Then that disturbed sense went away when you saw the rubbish CGI effects take over.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre has yet to be beaten, it's flawless in every way.

The most disgusting piece of trash I ever saw was Cannibal Holocaust, which is flawed in just about every way.

I like any horrors.. House of Wax was good,, Saw films are good,, and any werewolf films..._The Howling in particular.. Carrie too..Wolf beast animal ones which are blood thirsty..Gory ones...I could go on, but its late, dont want to bore you all..:D

I'd have to put in votes for other films mentioned here, and while Candyman certainly isn't up there with the best, I really enjoy it (and watched it again last night, hence my mentioning it, lol).

I think it's a great little film. Tony Tood is superb as the villain, Virginia MaRABen a really great choice for leading lady in a horror film and while it might have been played around with from source material to film; I think the changes to the story are brilliant, really fit the American setting and serve the story so well.

There's some really upsetting scenes in there too, in the sense they really make you feel for the lead character. The scenes were she awakens in the young mother's apartment with a meat cleaver in her hand, blood smeared across the place, a missing baby and a beheaded doberman is horrific, as is the murder/framing of Virginia MaRABen where her best friend is murdered whilst she's out on bail and under house arrest. One of those really gruelling films where the central character is put against it.

I think the endings pretty nifty too... horrific, and ... not great for Virginia MaRABen, but a tidy ending to a real gem of a horror film.

Gore doesn't bother me that much in a film. But I remember seeing a Hammer horror where a guy was forced to eat his pet poodles! :D They stuffed the white meat down a funnel until he choked to death and swear I nearly puked watching it. It's really mild stuff compared to Saw and Hostel but it really made me feel sick. I've no idea of it's name.

I think Final Destination was a great movie.
There have been too many sequels to it but the first one was pretty shocking and inventive with it's kills and premise.

I assume that to because a few weeks back i watched Switchblade Romance (Haute tension as it's known on IMDb) wich had subtitles and i have to say that film was really good made me jump a few times and had some pretty gory scenes like the killer using a womans severed head to stimulate a sex act :o and toss it out the widow when he was done :p (the head i mean :D)
