Whats really up with the cash for gold adds all over the advertising media?

i at first guessed it was because of a shortage of gold. something to do with the reccession and prices of gold. Then a haul of anglo saxon gold has been found in birmingham. Is it that its been set up to tempt people with gold in ways and part with it for money?

Whats your theories around the 'gold rush' in the media recently? in the uk and irish media.
any crazy conspiracy type theories!?
