Whats peoples experence with baby clothes?

I no the tags say "3m" n blah blah but what are some expereinces with them. has anyone had their baby actually go by tags before? are they way off?
 
My daughter is nearly four years old now, but i find some places are good and the tags are correct sizing but some shops i go into the clothes only fit for a couple of weeks and i have to buy more. I tend to just look at how big the garment is and i've done this since she was born, and see if it looks smallish, if it does i buy the next size up.

tags dont really mean much. your better off just comparing your baby to the clothing. for instance my son is two but i usually buy him 9 month old shorts and 18 month old jeans. newborn clothes do usually have weight on there tho too and you could try going by that.
 
In general, I would assume that 3M means "up to 3 months." I received an outfit by Carter's that was 3 month size and waited until my baby was 3 months old to wear it. By then it was almost too small. The baby can always grow into the clothes that are too large. I think it's harder to predict what size a baby will wear after they're about a year old though.
