Whats needed for a collision shop to send my car to the junk yard?

So, my mom got into an accident. She has a 2007 Chevy Cobalt. She was getting onto the on ramp to the thruway and hit ice, now she wasn't going faster than 30mph she hit only the drivers side front and rear. After taking her car to the insurance recommended collision shop they determined the car totaled. I completely disagree. Her insurance agent left her a voice mail saying her car was going to be towed as of monday and she had to get her belongings out of the vehicle. He didn't even talk to her personally. When she went to get her things out of the car the guy there didn't make her sign anything saying she agreed to have the car sent to the junk yard. No information what so ever. All I'm wondering is what information they really need to officially send a car off to the salvage yard. Okay, thanks!

Any information or documentation they need will be provided by the insurance company who becomes the de facto owner of the salvage in lieu of the claim they've paid to you. The authorization and explanation for the entire process is spelled-out within your auto insurance. And once you've asked your insurer to pay the claim, the decision is theirs. It's entirely out of your hands.

As for any loan balance that may exist on the vehicle, unless the insurance included "gap" coverage that would pay any additional amount between the vehicle's value and any amount owed, your mother must repay the difference. It's imperative she contact her lender (if a loan balance exists) as she's now technically in default because the collateral securing the loan has been destroyed. Your mother must make arrangements to pay-off any additional amount to satisfy the loan in full.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.
