What's more reliable, Toyota Supra or Mitsubishi 3000gt?

My dream car is the '93 Mitsubishi 3000gt but after looking at the specs for it, I've been hesitant on getting one now. I suppose the biggest problems with these cars are the timing belt and heads. I figured I'd buy a car used with these problems fixed.

My next choice was a '89-'91 Supra 7M-GTE. I know a little about the car but not enough compared to the 3000gt. I just know that it's a strong car.

I know that I'll get one answer saying, "All cars are reliable if you take care of them." Well dur, that's pretty obvious but when you buy from a private seller, who knows if they're telling the truth.


So from people who've had Supra's or 3000GT's, tell me which is the more reliable one. It'd be my first car. I don't want to deal with expensive parts.
I figured because I said it's my first car, people may assume I'm 16 or so. I'm in my 20's. I know that both are expensive to take care of but I just wanted to see people's opinions on them.

Maybe I just wanted to see which one seems most likely to give problems.
 
why are you even looking at jap sports cars for your first car anyway. honestly it doesn't matter which one you get cuz either of them will be totaled in no time. start with a granny car and work your way up as you get the handling and response down. your driving record and wallet will thank you
 
Having owned 5 Supras, and 3 3000GTS (not kidding), I can tell you this.

A car is only as reliable as you make it.

Maintain it well, and it will last forever. Dur.

So, if you know this, why bother asking?

Having owned both, neither one has any super reliability over the other. They're just machines. That's all.

Both will have expensive parts, as they're both expensive sports cars.

supras and 3000gts are practically maintence free cars as long as you take good care of them.

I can tell you from experience the 7mgte has an imminent head gasket failure problem because Toyota failed to torque the head bolts to 72 ft lbs and instead torqued them to 56 ft lbs. (bolts are too loose)

3000gts oem timing belts go prematurely, heard it from alot of owners..

its up to you to decide which one you want to put up with.. other then that my supra hasnt given me no other problem whatsoever.
 
"I don't want to deal with expensive parts." DO NOT BUY A 3000GT. They are mediocre on the reliability level but they are one of the most expensive budget sports cars to maintain in existence. Besides parts being overly expensive, the labor price on them is out the roof. They are very hard cars to work on. Lots and lots of parts, and no room to work around them. Just a yearly tune up will cost you just about as much as a 100 thousand dollar BMW would.
