What's in a fasting blood test?

I was on Lexapro for about 15 months.. I eat healthy and exercise but I've gained about 10-15 lbs over the last year.. Maybe it's an age thing but I think it was due to Lexapro.. So I called Dr. to see if I can get off of it-- she said yes very slowly so I'm taking half of pill.. Meanwhile she wants me to come in for a blood test so they can see what's going on.. The question is-- Can they tell if Lexapro is causing the weight gain or if it's simply the age factor??? Thanks--- And they will also check thyroid but my thyroid is always fine.

A fasting blood test simply means you have to go without eating for several hours (usually 12) before getting the blood test. If your Thyroid is bad, you should be having other symptoms like extreme fatigue, I know several people who have gained weight on Lexapro.

PJ is right. A blood test cannot tell if Lexapro is the cause.
