whats gong on with my laptop weird lag time or something?

I’m watching Stargate Universe on my laptop I’m using GOM and Windows media player and I’m getting some sort of lag. At times during playback the movie or t vim watching becomes stop motion at times ... in that a split second it stops and plays and stops and plays and goes and on, than the video will play back normal and the slow again and the fast forward where everyone looks like their running. It has happened on more than one film and isn’t restricted to a particular movie or TV episode. I have played, I’ve uninstalled and all that but don’t know what to do. I have also found my laptop becoming slow and although not completely unresponsive when I ask it to do something it takes its merry time and becomes slow to respond, when opening windows and typing, I seem to type and find noting on the screen and then as if a ghost has taken over the computer it types all by its self what I had originally typed. It’s only a year old but still new it’s a Sony viao with vista
