I am considering a zx-10, though however vainly, I want to beat my buddys monster s4.. will I with the ninja? horsepower/torque comparisons anyone?

Aye... whoever says that the ducati will outperform the Ninja in a real world situation or any other situation for that matter needs to go shoot themselves. The ninja(170hp) has 40 more horsepower than the Ducati(130 hp) and weighs about 20 pounds less. Sure the Ducati has a slight advantage in low end torque (and I stress the word SLIGHT here) but once your over 4000 rpm's(which you will be ALL THE TIME during a race) the Ninja will be making so much more horsepower and torque that you'll scare your buddies monster right off the road. And with your bikes lighter wieght and aerodymanic fairing you'll be able to outhandle him too.

I agree with rhand182 to a point. Are you talking about beating your buddy in a straight line or through the twisty bits?? If the latter, it comes down to how good a rider you are- You could put a novice on a GP bike and an experienced rider on a bog-standard sports tourer and the GP bike would probably be slower round the bends....

ninja carries all it's power on the top end. The Duc is a very flat torque curve because of it's v twin design. If you are talking about out performing him in real world situations go for the Duc because it has far more tractable power band.
Forget what the dreamer says...tell me one situation where you are over the 4000 rpm range for a sustained period of time without "police interference" The REAL world is stoplight to stoplight or carving up the twisties and tractable power like a Duc has will win every time. Unless you are Freddie Spencer, buy the Duc. Besides, nothing is cooler than the sound of Italian engineering
