What's a (SE) compensator?

My compensator just blew up in my brand new '10 Ultra. Am I pissed? To say the least! I've had it for 2 months, and have 5,500 miles on it. It wasn't making any unusual noises at all, and then out of the blue, I pulled up to a stop light and it started making this god-awful noise (like bolts were loose and flopping around in the transmission). I limped it 1/2 mile to my office and called the stealer to pick it up.

Apparently, the bolt in the compensator came completely out. Not sure yet what all was damaged internally, but I do know that they will be replacing the compensator with an SE unit, and also the primary cover has to be replaced. Happy camper? Me thinks not! I guess I'll find out how good the warranty service is.

From searching on this forum, this is a consistent problem with the bikes, and I'm wondering why HD hasn't issued a recall. This could be a MAJOR safety concern if this were to happen at 55 MPH.

I am not pleased in the least... and did I say I'm pissed? Yes I am... yes I am...

Here are some pics and drawings of the differences. As you can see in the drawings the new SE comp has more parts to it. Also the springs are much heavier to take the shock load off the crank. Did I mention the stock comp is junk? I hear the new 11' bikes have the SE comp. Now how about the MOCO paying all of us guinea pigs for helping them understand we won't accept "junk" on our $20K motorcycles. LOL

Try this, Google Chrome left something out on the first link I posted.

...while they're at it, the whole crank/lefty/Timken issue. The whole issue stems from Harley cutting production costs by using robots to "fit" these pieces together instead of employing a human being to "assemble" the bottom end and comp.

20 grand. I've gotta strip my motor down to the cases to make my bike the way it should have done from the factory. Honestly, how much more does it cost to do this right at the factory?

I've called around and I'm looking at 2 grand to 2500 just to do the flywheel/crank/bearing deal.

I'm not hard on my bikes. I don't do burn-outs nor do I ride like speed demon to show off, and I still could tweek the bottom end just riding like a normal guy. Not only uncool, Harley, but in this case, one could say the MOCO is a MOFO.
