Say I've several "windows" open in my Imac, but need to see something in my Desktop quickly, how can I get to look at it without closing down all my open windows?

For Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5 (Tiger & leopard), unless you changed the default keys, F11 scatters all open windows.

You can also set a hot corner in the system preferences to do the same thing. And if you have a mighty-mouse, you can set the buttons to do it as well.

you have to go to expose and set hot corners of your screen. my bro has set to the top right corner.

u could use a short cut CMD-H Command h hides ur window

Application

Spaces and Virtue desktop

It depends on the version of the Mac OS you have, the latest one, Leopard includes an option is wich you can push a button on your key board and it gives you 4 different desktops at a time, so if you dont have any room left on one of your desktop screens, you can just switch the desktop.
