Whats a good path on becoming a high school history teacher?

Going to be a senior this school year. I was thinking about career ideas and I came down to being a teacher. I think I would enjoy it. I plan on going to a JC then transferring. How many years of school can I expect to become a teacher? I know its got to be at least 4 or maybe 6. (Live in CA. by the way) I plan to be a history one. Maybe US History or World History. Would it be wise to just take my general ed at the JC and focus completely on what I want to become and skip on other classes?

What would be a good path to take for becoming a teacher?
