What's a Good Outdoor Dog?

I know a lot of you will tell me what I've already heard, that's inhumane, I'll forget about it, blah blah. I promise to you and the dog I won't forget about it and will give it all the attention and love it needs! And don't tell me to get a fish or hamster, I already have one of them. Now I live in an area where the winters are pretty cool (gets below 30 sometimes at night and day too) and the summers get in the 100s rarely but it does happen. I want to bring the dog in if weather is bad, not sure if my mom will let me though. She doesn't want to dog in the house because she didn't grow up with them in the house and "they belong outside" I disagree though. And probably cuz my bro and dad have asthma, no clue if they have allergies which bugs me the most she won't even give a dog a chance. What kind of dog would be the best in my situation, I'd like a dog that doesn't shed a whole lot too in case I do carry it in the house.
 
You are putting your needs before the dog's needs, and that is selfish. No dog can stay outdoors 24/7. Your mother obviously doesn't want a dog, your brother and father will likely suffer from having one in the house, and yet you think its a good idea to still get one???
Hopefully your mom still rules the house and squashes the dog idea for good.

You have to ask yourself in this situation if getting a dog would be the best choice. How long will the dog be outside for each day? 24/7? If this is true, getting two would be a better choice for the dogs' sakes, because they could keep each other company, and you'd have more to love! If you're not worried about price or money it would be a good idea.

I've had experience with Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, they are extremely hardy dogs and are good for staying outside. The thing with them though is that they NEED exercise. If you aren't willing to take them for walks (if you live in the city) they would not be for you. They are average shedders, needing only a 3 minute brushing to get rid of falling out hairs, and a bath every month or so. If you live in the country with a large running area they would like that. They actually PREFER both sleeping outside, and cooler climates.

first of all, the kind of dog that can stay out in that kind of weather, you won't be able to "carry in- it will need to be a LARGE dog to tolerate the cold. But, it WILL need to come in during the heat. Also, a dog meant to be out during the cold AND the heat will have a coat that thickens in the winter and sheds- a lot- in the summer. Second, obviously, you're still in school, your mom doesn't really want a dog and your father and brother probably can't tolerate a dog..... I would highly recommend you waiting until you are on your own and have a suitable home for it and can afford it. Sorry, I know how it is to really want a dog, but there isn't much choice when you live in your parent's home and they are against it.
 
Think about this-
Regardless of if you play with it everyday, ect.. it will still be outside, in a fence. How fair is that?
It's not.

It sounds like your mom doesn't like dogs, period.
It wouldn't create a happy enviroment for the dog.

Wait until you have a house of your own and it can stay inside.


Also,
Make sure you get a bigger dog if you insist on getting one. Small dogs can eaisly be picked up by birds and have trouble being outside 24/7.
