What's a good fixie bike for beginners?

Where I live, hardly anyone would buy or use a fixed gear bike (fixie) in order to avoid accidents

A brand new single gear bike is much cheaper and safer

Occasionally someone converted his into a fixie, take a look at the finished product, shook his head and tried to sell it off at a loss
 
I was thinking about getting a fixie bike (since its becoming more popular)

But I barely know anything about fixie bikes so what's a decent fixie bike for at least $500~$700

Also I weigh 165lb and 5ft 11
