What's a good first car?

I turn 17 in October and today my parents told me that I will need to buy my own car and they are going to insure it.
They said about a 1.1 - 1.2 engine.
What's something that doesn't look too bad like a clio or a Corsa that's affordable?
 
1.1 or 1.2 engine? Must not be in the USA. My first car had a V8, a Chevy Camaro with a 5.7L V8. Usually Girls in the U.S. get a Chevy Cavalier for their first car that has a 2.2L
